A bicyclist was fatally injured following a collision with an SUV in the North Sacramento area yesterday, authorities have confirmed. The wreck occurred in front of a business on the 4700 block of Northgate Boulevard sometime after noon, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
A report by abc10 described the incident, stating that a man in his 40s was riding a bicycle south of Del Paso Boulevard when, for undisclosed reasons, he veered into the path of a Ford Bronco traveling in the same direction.
The impact of the collision was severe, causing the cyclist to be ejected onto the vehicle's hood and into the windshield. The CHP told FOX40 that the cyclist sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Despite the absence of a proper bicycle lane on this stretch of Northgate Boulevard, cyclists often navigate alongside the Sacramento Northern Bikeway, which parallels the roadway.
The driver of the Ford Bronco, a man in his 20s, stayed at the scene and reportedly was not injured. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, and officials have not released further details.
