In a statement that underscores the escalating crisis in Eastern Europe, U.S. President Joe Biden condemned Russia's recent large-scale aerial attack on Ukraine. According to a statement released by the White House, the Russian offensive involved close to 200 missiles and drones targeting Ukrainian urban centers and key energy infrastructure, leaving many civilians without power.
"This attack is outrageous and serves as yet another reminder of the urgency and importance of supporting the Ukrainian people in their defense against Russian aggression," Biden said. The president also noted that, earlier in the year, the U.S. had expedited air defense exports, prioritizing Ukraine as the primary recipient. The delivery includes hundreds of air defense missiles, with more on the way, the Department of Defense confirms such ongoing support also encompasses artillery, rockets, and armored vehicles aimed at bolstering Ukrainian defenses before winter takes hold, as per the White House's official statement.
The U.S. administration has not only focused on immediate military aid but also on longer-term strategies to support Ukraine's resistance. In preparation for the harsh winter months, Biden's administration has helped to increase the resilience of the Ukrainian energy grid, a critical move as the recent attacks have disrupted power for numerous civilians. The additional air defense systems and the surge in other essential military capabilities are part of the concerted effort to assist Ukraine in this time of need.
Russia, according to Biden, continues to "underestimate the bravery, resilience, and determination of the Ukrainian people," as noted by the White House's official statement. The statement also highlighted the international dimension of the conflict, with President Biden reminding that the United States stands with over 50 countries in solidarity with Ukraine, and its fight for freedom. This international coalition reflects widespread disapproval of Russian aggression and a collective commitment to uphold the principles of national sovereignty and resistance to unwarranted invasion.
