
Early Thursday morning, a fire engulfed a carport attached to an apartment building in Sherman Oaks, resulting in several vehicles being destroyed. The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the scene at 4:10 a.m. at 12940 W Burbank Boulevard, as reported by KTLA. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze that ravaged up to six vehicles and the carport of the two-story garden-style apartment complex.
According to the LAFD alert, it took 45 firefighters a commendable burst of effort that lasted just 43 minutes, to fully control the fire, from the time of the call until 4:53 AM. No injuries were reported in the incident, which could provide a semblance of relief amidst the calamity. The cause of the fire is still under investigation with details scant, as of 7 a.m.
The swift response of the fire department prevented the blaze from causing further damage, beyond the vehicles and the carport itself. Images from the scene show the extent of the destruction, with several cars reduced to nearly unrecognizable states of ruin, KTLA captured visuals of the aftermath that depicted the charred remnants of what before, were modes of transport and symbols of personal independence.
Details regarding the fire are still emerging, and authorities have not yet identified a potential cause. The Los Angeles Fire Department has emphasized that their investigation continues, stretching into the hours following the extinguishment of the fire, according to an LAFD alert. Residents of the apartment building and, the neighborhood are waiting for additional information as the aftermath of the blaze begins to clear.
