The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that starting on December 1, drivers should prepare for higher toll rates when crossing the eastbound Blue Water Bridge. A $1 increase will take effect, marking the first toll rate adjustment for the bridge in the last 14 years. ClickOnDetroit reported that the MDOT released information indicating a second increase of $1 is also planned for December 1, 2025.

Customers and regular bridge users provided feedback through a survey, which influenced the final rate adjustments. Meanwhile, motorists with an EDGE Pass can still receive a $0.50 discount per crossing. MDOT has provided a detailed breakdown of the new toll rates, which show that cars and each additional axle will now cost $4. At the same time, trucks and buses will be charged $4.25 per axle, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation’s official website.

The additional revenue from the higher toll rates is intended for the bridge's continued maintenance and essential upgrades to the Blue Water Bridge plaza. With toll rates unchanged for over a decade, officials believe the adjustment is necessary to cover increasing operational and maintenance costs.

Commuters and commercial drivers who wish to find more information on the EDGE Pass or have questions can visit the Blue Water Bridge's dedicated website. Queries can also be directed to MDOT at [email protected].
