Boulder residents, get ready to embrace a digital shift in how you handle your utility bills. Starting November 25, the City of Boulder will be launching a new online billing platform that is bound to streamline the payment process for all water utility clients. This change not only simplifies the management of bills but also takes a step towards a green initiative by transitioning to paperless billing.
But with every upgrade comes a momentary pause, the period of adjustment where customers and systems alike must learn to speak anew to one another. From Nov. 21, you will have "View Only" access to the existing billing portal until Dec. 9. Phone payments, those beacons in the dark for the less internet-savvy, will also hit pause, there will be no automated phone payment access from Nov. 21 to 24. Additionally, any modifications to payment types or auto-pay settings are in a freeze-frame from Nov. 14 to 24, according to the City of Boulder.
To help users transition to the new system, you will need your customer number and account number for registration. You can find these numbers on your existing utility bills. The good news is that if you are already set up for auto-pay in the current system, you will be automatically transitioned to the new system's auto-pay feature. This is a welcome relief in a world where we're often required to re-enter information we've provided multiple times.
That's not the only change on the horizon. Come February 2025, Boulder is moving forward with its eco-friendly initiative by implementing paperless billing, with the January bill being the final paper statement customers will receive. The city believes that switching to paperless will reduce waste, be more cost-effective, and provide a more secure billing process, bolstering both environmental responsibility and economic sense. While we're adjusting to the changes in bill presentation and payment, perhaps it's also an opportunity to reflect on the broader shift towards sustainability, which is the hallmark of Boulder's approach to utility management.
