The Bradenton community is facing the aftermath of a tragic hit-and-run that occurred early Friday on U.S. 301 near 44th Avenue East. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pedestrian in the travel lanes was struck by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene. Authorities are investigating and are searching for the driver and the car, believed to be a white Nissan, ABC Action News reports.
After the initial hit-and-run, there was another critical event. The victim, already struck, was run over by an SUV and a motorcycle in a secondary crash, "Both drivers remained on the scene," according to WFLA.com. As a consequence, the southbound lanes of US 301 were closed for several hours, leading to significant traffic delays before the road reopened.
The Florida Highway Patrol has been active in appealing to the public for assistance. Noting the severity of the situation, they have asked anyone with information about the white Nissan or the driver to get in touch by contacting FHP at *FHP or Crime Stoppers.
