A high-speed chase ensued through Brooklyn Park and Robbinsdale on November 5th, after Brooklyn Park Police officers attempted to pull over a vehicle linked to a theft of ammunition from a local business. According to the official report, the confrontation began near Lakeland Ave and 79th Ave at around 7:55 pm, when the suspect collided with a police squad car and subsequently fled the attempted traffic stop.
Officers gave chase southbound on County Road 81 into Robbinsdale, where they tried to use a pursuit intervention technique to stop the vehicle, these attempts were, however, met with further evasion as the suspect turned around and sped northbound, continuing the high-stakes cat-and-mouse game on to Eastbound I-694 and onwards to Southbound I-35W near County Road C. It was at this point, for reasons not detailed, that officers decided to discontinue their pursuit.
The identity of the suspect or suspects remains undisclosed, and no injuries or additional property damage beyond the initial collision with the squad car have been reported at this time. The Brooklyn Park Police Department is actively investigating the theft and the events that occurred during the pursuit.
Further details about the ammunition theft itself have not been released, nor have insights into why the pursuit was called off, raising questions about the inherent dangers of high-speed chases and their impact on public safety.
