An incident on Maui this past weekend left a Canadian visitor hospitalized after a landslide, authorities reported. The event occurred on Sunday morning when a landslide struck a vehicle on Piilani Highway, located between Kipahulu and Kaupo roads, around 10:30 a.m.
According to Hawaii News Now, the landslide caused significant damage to the vehicle, impacting the windshield and sending a rock through its roof. The rock in question struck a 66-year-old woman who was a passenger, resulting in injuries to her right shoulder, arm, and left leg. Despite the chaotic scene, the three other passengers in the vehicle were unharmed. After receiving medical attention at the scene, the woman was transported to the hospital.
A further report from KHON2 noted that the vehicle was rendered undrivable due to the damage sustained during the incident. The same source reported that the rock caused by the landslide not only broke through the roof but also the windshield.
Moreover, there were two, not three, other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the landslide, as detailed by the MFD. Emergency services quickly responded to the incident, rendering aid to those affected and ensuring the injured party was duly cared for in hospital.
