CBP Seizes $468K Worth of Cocaine at Progreso Port of Entry

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers recently reported a significant drug bust at the Progreso Port of Entry, where 35 pounds of cocaine with a street value estimated at nearly half a million dollars were discovered concealed within a vehicle. As noted by CBS Austin, the narcotics were found on November 11 during a secondary inspection of a 2013 Dodge.

The operation resulted in the extraction of 14 packages that tested positive for cocaine, the collective weight amounting to 35 pounds and an estimated street value of "$468,302," this being a drug seizure that highlights the ongoing challenges and successes on the battle against illicit substance trafficking at national borders, and during the inspection, agents utilized technology and strategies designed to interfere with such illegal activities, thus demonstrating an enduring commitment to community safety and border integrity.

Port Director Walter Weaver emphasized the role of diligent officers in these operations, stating, "Our frontline officers continue to work diligently to safeguard our communities through narcotic interdiction coupled with the effective use of technology," in a statement obtained by News 4 San Antonio. He recognized that this seizure, an example of what officers confront regularly, "exemplifies the importance and necessity of our ongoing border security mission," as per CBS Austin report.

Following the seizure, both the narcotics and the vehicle were reportedly taken into custody by CBP, the incident remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) as they pursue further insights into the origins and intended distribution networks of the seized drugs, with more details pending as the HSI probes into the web of smuggling operations that often conceal their illicit cargo within the stream of legitimate cross-border traffic.
