Stanislaus County District Attorney Jeff Laugero has announced the guilty plea of Ruben Olvera, a 33-year-old man from Ceres, in the case of the murder of Michell Gonzalez. According to a Facebook post by the Stanislaus County District Attorney, the first-degree murder conviction comes following the events of February 16, where Olvera ended Gonzalez's life under brutal circumstances.
Olvera, who shared a history of domestic violence and was in a dating relationship with Gonzalez, in an act of violence while driving on Highway 99 in Modesto, inflicted multiple stab wounds upon her and, following her desperate attempt to escape from the moving vehicle, he struck her with his car, resulting in her death; this information has been detailed by the prosecutors handling the case. Olvera, who is scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday next week, faces a life sentence for his actions. The apprehension of the suspect and the subsequent investigation were conducted by the Modesto Police Department, culminating in the successful prosecution by Deputy District Attorney Fawn Smolak.
