Reports of potential voter suppression surfaced from Pittsburgh's Carrick neighborhood as the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office investigates instances of individuals allegedly blocking the entrance to a polling place. Just before the polls were poised to close yesterday, a situation unfolded at Roosevelt School where voters faced obstacles purportedly erected by a group of obstructive individuals.
According to WTAE, a call was placed to the elections department at about 6:30 p.m. indicating that as many as three persons, including one identified as Blaise 'Boykon,' stood in the way of democracy by physically preventing voters from entering the polling station. The deputies, arriving posthaste, could only bear witness to the aftermath as the suspects had, by then, disappeared into the waning day. A court order described the situation as "Three unknown individuals including Blaise 'Boykon' and two others" were actively denying entrance to prospective voters.
On the legal front, a court order was swiftly issued, tasking sheriff's deputies with arresting and presenting the perpetrators before the elections court. Yet, despite the urgency of this mandate, the alleged culprits could not be found in time to face immediate accountability. Audacy further reported that deputies stayed at the polling station until closing, an evident move to reassure voters and sustain the unhindered exercise of their civic duty.
