In the spirit of the holiday season, the Charlotte County Libraries are channeling their inner Santa to spread some joy, but with a twist: cookies. Through a program quaintly dubbed "Cookies for Kindness," the library system is looking to sweeten the season for the homebound and those residing in local assisted living facilities. They are now welcoming donations of cookies – but hold the nuts and any peanut-related conspirators, please.
Seeking to extend a small gesture of comfort and festive cheer, these store-bought or bakery-prepared confections must be unopened and peanut-free, aiming to avoid allergic reactions. In their pilgrimage to bring goodwill, cookies can be delivered to any one of three library locations until December 7, according to the Charlotte County Government website.
The Port Charlotte Public Library, Englewood Charlotte Library, and Punta Gorda Charlotte Library stand as the bastions where the sweetness can be surrendered during regular operating hours. Located at 2280 Aaron St. in Port Charlotte, 3450 N Access Road in Englewood, and 401 Shreve St. in Punta Gorda, these libraries are more than just a haven for books but now a drop-off point for edible kindness.
Participation in the cookie campaign is just a small yet impactful manner in which the libraries are making more than literature accessible to their patrons; they're offering a taste of the holidays, a flavour of consideration and inclusion that transcends pages to the palates of those who might find the festive period a stretch too solitary.
