
A fatal car accident claimed the life of 16-year-old Lillee Shyann Wright. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Wright's vehicle struck a tree on the 9700 block of Brookshire Boulevard yesterday evening. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred around 6:41 p.m. when Wright's 2007 Nissan Altima veered off the road. The front right wheel hit the soft shoulder, causing Wright to lose control and crash into a tree. A juvenile passenger, whose name has not been released, was helped out of the car by passing motorists and was later taken to Atrium Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit's preliminary investigation found no signs of excessive speed or impairment. Police confirmed that both Wright and her passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
After the incident, the Cooks Community Volunteer Fire Department, CFD, and MEDIC responded to the scene. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has stated they will continue investigating to understand the details of the crash, but no additional information has been released at this time.
