Charlotte Teen Charged in Shooting that Injured 2-Year-Old Girl and Linked to Second ShootingSource: Meck County Jail

An 18-year-old suspect has been taken into custody in connection with a shooting in northwest Charlotte that left a 2-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries. The incident unfolded on October 12, when shots were fired into a home on Wildwood Avenue where the young child was struck, as reported by WCNC. The house along with two cars parked at the property sustained damage during the shooting.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have since charged Damarco Williams with multiple offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure, felony conspiracy, injury to personal property, and seven counts of felony discharging a firearm into occupied property. Authorities were able to quickly to track down the suspect after the violent act. According to a police affidavit, an individual leaned out of the rear window of a car and fired shots at the residence, as noted by WSOCTV. Doorbell video captured the white sedan involved in the event.

Furthermore, reports from WBTV reveal the toddler was lying in bed during the early morning incident when a bullet struck her arm. Another bullet reportedly passed through her great-grandmother's headboard. The victim was later released from the hospital after receiving medical treatment. Williams was issued a $500,000 bond and released yesterday, and he will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device.

Investigations further linked Williams to another shooting at a second home on Morgan Street, though no injuries were reported there. Potential motives were uncovered after a resident suggested the attack might have been an act of retaliation. The vehicle used in the shootings, found to be stolen, was located and connected Williams to the crimes. He also admitted to possessing the keys to the vehicle used during the shootings. "Police said due to the time frame of the shootings, the vehicle connection, and a possible motive, Williams has been charged in connection with both shootings," WSOCTV reported. A search of a related residence uncovered several firearms and shell casings that matched those found at the scenes of the shootings.
