In a move that intersects commerce with community, Chobani is redefining its corporate presence with the unveiling of Chobani House, its future global headquarters in the NoHo district of Manhattan. According to Crain's New York, the yogurt behemoth's new quarters will encompass the entirety of a boutique office tower at 360 Bowery, transforming the traditional concept of a head office into a multipurpose space.
Renovation plans remain partly under wraps but, Chobani’s intentions include enriching the local district with experiential retail and a community-minded kitchen. Chobani's chief communications officer, Ben Boyd, forewarning a reimagined post-pandemic office landscape expressed the desire "to make that real estate work harder in support of the community" where the company operates, according to Crain's New York. Details of the inclusive use of the space, however, are yet scant.
The impact of such developments echoes beyond Chobani’s walls, with the possibility of igniting a broader trend. Kathryn Wylde, president of the Partnership for New York City, noted the potential for Chobani's novel HQ approach to serve as a model, spurred by the post-pandemic era’s impetus to reinforce neighborhoods. Chobani's decision also follows in the footsteps of New York University, which will lease a sprawling 1.1 million square feet at 770 Broadway, although under very different terms.
Expanding on the vision behind Chobani House, Chobani's founder and CEO, Hamdi Ulukaya, revealed aims to accelerate the company's global mission while embracing the unique spirit of New York City. "Today, more than ever, it's up to business to invest and innovate to ensure our urban communities thrive," Ulukaya enlightened, in a statement obtained by Dairy Foods. The site will not only drive Chobani's business but elevate its civic engagement through nourishing meals for those in need, sheltering an incubator lab, and contributing to local non-profits.
With commitments that stretch over the next three decades, Chobani is signaling a long-term investment in the Empire State. Governor Kathy Hochul lauded the expansion, highlighting the positive ramifications for New York’s dairy farmers and broader population. Moreover, Chobani will house the Tent Partnership for Refugees and Shepherd Futures within this space, signaling an even broader humanitarian outreach from the locale.
Anticipation surrounds the completion of the Chobani House project, slated for the fourth quarter of 2025.
