As the Thanksgiving holiday draws near, the City of Denton has announced its operating hours and closures for various services and facilities, ensuring residents can plan for the festive weekend. According to a City of Denton release on Monday, municipal operations will take a brief hiatus to observe the national holiday. From the airport to libraries and animal services, the two-day closure will give city employees a chance to participate in their Thanksgiving traditions.
All city administrative venues, including the offices at the Denton Airport, will be shut on Thursday and Friday. Nonetheless, those taking to the skies won't be grounded, as the air traffic control tower remains operational from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield is accessible round-the-clock. While you might be unable to renew your books or attend a storytime, Denton's libraries will close early, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. They will remain closed through Friday, prompting a proper return to the literary haven the following Saturday.
Animal lovers should note that the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center will be closed to visitors and adoptions on Thursday and Friday. Call (940) 349-8181 for non-emergencies, and for urgent animal emergencies, call 911. Also, the Municipal Courts will close early at 3:30 p.m. and won’t reopen until Monday, December 2.
For those seeking recreation, most places like the Denton Civic Center, rec centers, and senior centers will be closed. However, the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center and North Lakes Driving Range will be open for limited hours on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Solid Waste & Recycling department will adjust its schedule: there will be no curbside service on Thursday, but it will resume on Friday, with a shorter schedule at the landfill.
Residents can reach Utility dispatch at (940) 349-7000 for emergent support for utility disturbances disrupting the festive peace.
