As Thanksgiving approaches, the City Wide Club of Houston is facing a significant shortfall of donations and volunteers needed for its 46th annual Super Feast event. Despite the strong support from Houstonians, the City Wide Club still needs additional resources to meet the growing demand this year. According to CW39, the club has already received over 3,000 turkeys but is still short by 1,200 to ensure that all attendees at the George R. Brown Convention Center can receive a hot meal tomorrow.
Additionally, the organization is on the lookout for 1,500 volunteers to assist in serving food and distributing goods to those in need. In a statement obtained by CW39, Nicole Lopez from the City Wide Club highlighted their needs for the week. The George R. Brown Convention Center, located at 1001 Avenida De Las Americas in downtown Houston, will be the venue for the feast, hosted by the City Wide Club.
The urgency of the situation was highlighted in a recent announcement from the City Wide Club, which organized an emergency food drive on Monday. According to ABC13, the need for donations and volunteers has increased as many local families are facing job losses and financial difficulties, driving a higher demand for assistance.
This year's Super Feast is expected to serve more than double the number of people compared to previous years, feeding over 35,000 individuals that includes senior citizens and veterans. "With many families facing job losses and financial hardships, the need for assistance has never been greater," the organization said in a statement to ABC13. The group continues to seek donations, which can be dropped off directly at the Convention Center or their headquarters at 4900 Fournace Place.
