A 66-year-old Clare County man was severely injured after a collision with an Amish horse and buggy, authorities reported. Richard Rodabaugh of Farwell was airlifted to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids following the crash that occurred last Friday around 7:25 p.m.
The Clare County Sheriff's Office indicated that the man was driving a Ford F-150 southbound on Clare Avenue when he collided with the unoccupied buggy, which was moving northbound. According to ABC12, the passenger inside the pickup truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and no other individuals were harmed as the buggy was empty at the time of the incident.
The horse owner, identfied as Andrew Hochstetler, 50, told investigators the animal had escaped from a nearby farm on Eberhart Avenue. The horse, unfortunately, did not survive the encounter and was found deceased on the scene. Officials cited Hochstetler for failing to contain the animal, which is against Michigan law, as reported by WNEM.
