United Way CEO and President Cindy Aubrey received honors Thursday night as Mayor Yemi Mobolade of Colorado Springs presented her with the Inspirational Leader Spirit of Colorado Springs Award during her retirement celebration, the city has announced. Aubrey was recognized for her steadfast commitment to the community and her role in leading the local nonprofit to new heights. The award, given for exceptional leadership that motivates others, acknowledges her efforts in tackling some of the city's toughest challenges.
"Cindy Aubrey is an inspiration to all of us," Mayor Yemi stated, as per the City of Colorado Springs, conveying the esteem in which Aubrey is held for her advocacy and leadership. Under her stewardship, Aubrey not only fostered partnerships amongst nonprofits, but she also has been a staunch supporter of Colorado Springs' most vulnerable citizens, making, what the mayor described as an "indelible mark" on the community.
A Colorado native and graduate of Mitchell High School, Aubrey's career trajectory is emblematic of her dedication to her hometown. She spent nearly two decades at Fox 21 and KOAA, leading various departments with aplomb. It's during her time as Chief Communications Officer for Colorado Springs that Aubrey became a household name, successfully navigating the dissemination of critical information throughout the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fire emergencies, as described by the City of Colorado Springs.
In her subsequent role with Pikes Peak United Way, Aubrey applied her expertise to significantly enhance the organization's impact, culminating in initiatives like the Family Success Center in southeast Colorado Springs. Her tenure as President and CEO coincided with United Way's centennial celebration, which, she used as a platform to forge new partnerships aimed at empowering the local community. The city's release underscored these accomplishments and her influence as being exemplary of the qualities the Inspirational Leader Spirit of the Springs Award seeks to recognize.
