Last night, a peaceful suburban street became the backdrop for a tragedy when Patrol Officers responded to a shooting in the 1000 Block of Fordham Rd. At approximately 8:59 pm, officers arrived to find 37-year-old Dennis Peoples III in front of a residence with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to a local hospital, but despite urgent medical intervention, Peoples III was pronounced dead at 9:31 pm. The Columbus Police Department's release stated that investigators are currently examining a claim of self-defense in connection with the incident.
The case has not yet been closed, and upon completion of the investigation, a detailed report will be submitted to the Franklin County Prosecutors Office. According to the Columbus Division of Police statement, they will then decide if the evidence warrants a Grand Jury examination.
The investigators’ appeal underscores the public's critical role in the justice process. The Columbus Police Department urges anyone with information to call Detective Journey at (614) 645-4953 or contact the Homicide Unit and Central Ohio Crime Stoppers. This outreach, in the hope that residents will help shed light on the incident, reflects law enforcement's reliance on community cooperation. As the investigation continues, updates are anticipated, and the department has committed to keeping the public informed on the case's progression.
