The Columbus Division of Police has reported the arrest of 16 individuals tied to the Livingston Lonsdale Bloods gang, concluding a rigorous two-year investigation. These arrests targeted a gang implicated in violent crimes and considerable drug trafficking in Columbus' Far East Side. The operation, 'Operation Pocket Aces,' sought to dismantle what the Columbus police perceived as a persistent criminal threat in the community.
According to NBC4i, the gang members are linked to a spree of activities, including drug trafficking and violent assaults that have unsettled the neighborhood for almost two decades. Columbus Police’s Gang Enforcement Unit led the investigation, netting a substantial haul of 56 firearms, impressive quantities of narcotics, and over $150,000 in cash. Notable is that all individuals arrested were already prohibited from possessing weapons due to prior felonies.
First Assistant Chief LaShanna Potts of the Columbus Division of Police expressed confidence in the collaborative effort, stating, “We can disrupt and dismantle gang violence in Columbus. And we’re doing it one gang at a time,” as detailed in The Columbus Dispatch report. The operation uncovered not just drug-related offenses but also violent and firearm-related charges against the accused.
Sgt. Shawn Gruber emphasized the calculated nature of the gang’s operations, which sometimes occurred near schools, escalating their actions' severity. "With gangs, there’s violent individuals that traffic drugs,” Gruber told NBC4i. The ramifications of the gang's activities were not limited to the direct transactions of narcotics but also reportedly contributed to a climate of fear.
Reactions from Columbus residents, such as Chandler Tennant, reflect shock and relief. Recognizing some of the arrested individuals from his childhood, Tennant conveyed his disbelief to WBNS. Nevertheless, he welcomed the increased safety following these arrests, implying a positive shift for locals, especially for the young families in the area. Authorities assure that this ongoing investigation will continue to target similar criminal entities, aiming to enhance public safety and decrease the prevalence of gang activity in Columbus.
