Early yesterday, the quiet of a Columbus, Ohio, street was shattered by the alarming echo of an aggravated robbery. According to a media release issued by the Columbus Division of Police, two suspects, one adorned with the visage of the Purge and the other sporting a Phantom mask, brazenly entered a business on the 3500 block of Clime Road.
The ordeal unfolded at approximately 2:41 A.M., when the suspect wearing the Phantom mask dared to briefly lift it, revealing his face to the store's surveillance. Meanwhile, his accomplice, behind the anonymizing facade of a Purge mask, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded cash. The duo swiftly fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle, heading eastward down Clime Road. Seemingly encouraged, or perhaps necessitated by the anonymity provided by their masks, the suspects partake in an act as old as civilization itself—theft with the added sting of fear and powerlessness inflicted upon their unsuspecting victim.
