Sacramento is seeing a unique amalgamation of art and altruism with the "Come to Your Senses" exhibit, doubling as a donation drive to support local families and youth programs. The interactive art exhibit, in partnership with the Capitol Area Development Authority (CADA), YMCA of Superior California, and MusicLandria, kicked off on Wednesday and is set to continue through February, as reported by the Sacramento City Express.
The exhibit, which is hosted at 808 O St. in downtown Sacramento, invites visitors to engage all five senses with tactile art, light displays, and soundscapes. An enticing artist meet-up and live music performances marked the kickoff event. But it's not just about sensory engagement; the exhibit presents an avenue for contributing to the community. Megan Van Voorhis, Director of Convention and Cultural Services, emphasized the fusion of creativity and generosity, stating, “By coming together to support local families and youth programs, we’re not only addressing immediate needs but also fostering connections through art, music, and shared experiences," according to the Sacramento City Express.
Generosity is further incentivized by free admission; five canned goods or one new toy gains a person entry, while a musical instrument donation allows for up to four people to participate. The initiative aligns beautifully with Sacramento's spirit of community, as Danielle Foster, Executive Director of Capitol Area Development Authority, told the Sacramento City Express, "This is a wonderful opportunity for the Sacramento community to come together, support local families and community members, and experience the magic of the ‘Come to Your Senses’ exhibit."
The drive focuses its benefits on several YMCA programs like swim lessons, youth camps, and the nurturing of community spaces. Contributions towards musical instruments specifically aid MusicLandria, an organization devoted to enhancing community access to music and the arts.
