The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has undergone a significant change in leadership following the election of two influential figures within its ranks - Commissioner Anthony Rodriguez, taking on the role of Chairman, and Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee stepping up as Vice Chairman. The announcement comes after a unanimous vote by the board yesterday, reported Miami-Dade County District 10.
Chairman Rodriguez, who initiated his term on Nov. 22, 2022, after his election earlier that year, accepts the mantle with a track record for securing state funding for local organizations during his time in the Florida House of Representatives, fostering support for community pillars like the WOW Center and Casa Familia, and his involvement with the Miami-Dade CountryFest and Zoo Miami reflects this commitment; Rodriguez shared, “I am grateful to my colleagues for putting their trust in me, and I look forward to working with each of you as we shape the future of our County,” as noted by Miami-Dade County District 10.
The board's decisions will be presided over by Chairman Rodriguez, who is tasked with the appointment of chairpersons and members for the board's committees, ensuring the smooth operation of nine Board offices, handling intricate affairs such as Intergovernmental Affairs, the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium, and BCC Media.
Uniting alongside Rodriguez in leading the Board, Vice Chairman McGhee, with a footprint that extends back to his election to the Florida House in 2012, brings forth his legal acumen and his devotion to serving the public, further highlighted by his work with organizations like the Florida Trial Lawyers Association and the Wilkie D. Ferguson Bar Association as well as his literary contribution 'Conquering Hope: The Life You Were Destined to Live'; echoing the service-oriented mission set by Rodriguez, he stated, “We are here for the people, to support the people, and to work for the people,” according to the same news release.
