
Conyers City Manager Kameron Kelley has tapped two fresh faces to lead the charge in the Public Works and Information Technology departments. Rising through the ranks from deputy director, Craig Mitchell brings over two decades of infrastructure savvy to the helm of Public Works and Transportation, a role effective immediately, while IT whiz Alan Hackett takes the reins of the Information Technology department after more than a decade with the city, reported Conyers official news release.
Mitchell, who clocked in his time with Conyers starting in 2018, comes with a veritable toolbox of qualifications, from soil and water management to wastewater certifications and a resume that stretches across both private and municipal infrastructure spheres, according to a Conyers news release, his extensive experience outfitting him for his role over sanitation, recycling, stormwater, and more and Kelley referred to Mitchell’s "detail-oriented" approach and his seasoned experience that will seamlessly transition into leading public works operations.
"Craig is detail-oriented and well-versed in all aspects of public works. He brings significant experience to this position and the respect he’s earned in collaborating with utilities and government entities, as well as with the employees in the divisions of our Public Works and Transportation department, speaks to his character and capability in accomplishing all aspects of the job," Kelley effused in a statement pulled from the City of Conyers announcement.
Hackett, on the other hand, is a Conyers-raised talent, whose journey from intern to IT director speaks to the success of the city's investment in homegrown potential, now overseeing vital tasks like implementing new tech and securing the city's digital borders, Kelley described Hackett's ascension as marked by strong leadership, profound industry expertise, and an intimate command of the city's IT landscape—a skill set ideal for driving the city's technological ambitions, “Alan’s strong leadership qualities, industry expertise, and knowledge of the city’s IT systems and software make him a perfect fit in his new role as director,” Kelley shared, as reflected in the City of Conyers news release.
