Community spirit soared this past weekend as Coppell's finest, the firefighters and police officers, took to a different field of competition. The 3rd Annual CFD versus CPD Charity Cornhole Tournament, a cherished local tradition that engenders friendship and a little healthy rivalry among Coppell's first responders, has wrapped up another successful event, the Coppell Police Department announced on social media.
The focal point of this gathering wasn't just the cornhole boards but the shared commitment to uplift the community. According to the Coppell Police Department's Facebook post, "Saturday was our 3rd Annual CFD versus CPD Charity Cornhole Tournament. We plan these types of events in an effort to build camaraderie among our first responders outside of work." This year's event not only brought together the men and women who serve the city but also benefited the Riverside Church of Christ through player entry fees.
Community engagement extended beyond the uniformed participants. The Citizen's Police Academy Coppell Alumni Association played its part by providing the sustenance — pizza for players and families — that fuels such gatherings. Added to that, Sandy Lake CrossFit deserves a nod for offering a space as large as the hearts of those tossing the bags, and hosting the event at their gym.
