Early this morning, a severe multi-vehicle collision on Farrington Highway in Nanakuli left at least one person trapped and several others injured. The Honolulu Fire Department responded with six units and 16 personnel, according to a report by KITV.
The incident, which involved five vehicles, occurred shortly after 5 AM. HFD's first unit reached at 5:27 a.m. and discovered a victim stuck in their vehicle. The firefighters employed hydraulic rescue tools to liberate the trapped individual. After the rescue, care was passed to Emergency Medical Services at about 5:50 a.m., as detailed by KITV.
The Honolulu Police Department took over the command of the area subsequent to the fire department securing the area. Concurrently, EMS attended to three patients who sustained various degrees of injuries. One among the patients was reported to be in critical condition, and all were transported to local emergency rooms for further treatment.
KHON2 noted that the crash had caused significant traffic disruption, shutting down Farrington Highway in both directions at Auyong Homestead Road. It was reported that traffic was re-routed up Auyong, with one westbound lane being used for contraflow to alleviate the congestion. The areas involved in the crash are now part of an ongoing investigation by HPD while authorities continue their examination into the cause of the collision.
