
Early this morning, a serious vehicle accident on Interstate 71 near the Interstate 270 interchange resulted in one person being taken to the hospital in critical condition. According to a press release by the Columbus Division of Police, the incident involved a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck that left the roadway and struck a concrete support pillar of the overpass.
The accident occurred on the north side of Columbus at approximately 4:41 a.m. The report details that the vehicle sustained severe damage and caught fire following the collision. Emergency personnel were quick to respond, managing to extract the vehicle's sole occupant, an adult identified only as being in critical condition. The individual was subsequently transported to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, with updates from medical staff indicating a survival expectation.
While the investigation continues, the interchange area where the accident occurred was subjected to closures impacting early morning traffic.
