
An incident unfolded on Louisiana Highway 3235 near La Salette Drive, where the life of a cyclist came to an abrupt end. According to the Louisiana State Police, 60-year-old Carl Guidry of Golden Meadow was killed on the evening of Wednesday. The collision occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m.
During an attempt to cross the highway, Guidry, riding east on his bicycle, was struck by a northbound 2014 Dodge 2500. The driver of the Dodge, involved in the crash, was not injured. Despite being properly restrained, for reasons which the authorities are still trying to ascertain, the bicycle and the pickup truck collided, according to Louisiana State Police Troop C's early reports.
The impact was fatal, and Guidry succumbed to his injuries on the scene. While impairment is not currently suspected on the part of the driver of the Dodge, who submitted to a breath test revealing no alcohol, an analysis of a standard toxicology sample from Guidry is pending. The investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing.
In the meantime, the State Police have issued a reminder to the public. They emphasized that under Louisiana law, bicycles are considered vehicles, and "requiring operators to follow the same traffic rules as motorists." They also reminded cyclists of the importance of visibility while sharing the road with larger vehicles, suggesting the use of proper lighting and wearing brightly colored or reflective clothing, especially "in low-light conditions enhances your safety." These safety measures are critical for preventing such incident, according to the Louisiana State Police.
