A deer crashed through a window of the Gardner White Furniture store in Kochville Township yesterday afternoon, during Michigan's firearm hunting season. The incident occurred as the deer appeared to enter the store in an attempt to escape the nearby hunting activity.

In an apparent attempt to evade hunters, the doe ended up navigating through a display of sofas and dining sets rather than the safety of the woods. The brief incident, which occurred around 3:40 p.m., was confirmed by ABC12. The deer eventually exhausted itself and collapsed in the corner of the store.

The Saginaw County Sheriff's deputies, identified as Cameron Helwer and Evan Johnson, arrived on the scene to manage the situation. They had to physically carry the exhausted doe out of the building, with body cam footage obtained by KFOXTV capturing the effort. After a few moments of disorientation following its release, the deer regained its composure and fled the area.

Sheriff William L. Federspiel, reflecting on the nature of the job, said, "We get some strange stuff, don’t we?" He added, "A day in the life of a deputy," as cited by MLive. Despite the sudden disruption, no injuries were reported among the store staff or customers during the incident.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reported that, as of this morning, 80,381 deer had been harvested since the start of the firearm season. MLive stated that the reasons for the deer’s entry into the retail space remain unclear, and Gardner White has not released an estimate of the damages.
