An armed suspect led DeSoto Police on a chase through a residential neighborhood after discharging a firearm multiple times. As stated in a recent social media post from the DeSoto Police Department, the incident, which occurred on Monday at approximately 9:30 pm, began after emergency dispatchers were flooded with calls regarding shots fired in the 200 block of North Hampton Road.
Responding officers from the Charlie Shift arrived within two minutes, and their search led to a suspect hidden in the local daycare's backyard playground area. Upon discovery, the suspect, equipped with a backpack, dashed through the neighborhood after hurdling a fence behind the daycare center. Police used a support drone and a K9 unit to track the suspect, now identified as Jazion Lederrick Williams, who was moving eastbound in front of a local church, according to the department's post.
Williams was eventually apprehended near Chattey Road after another foot pursuit by the police. Upon his arrest for evading Arrest or Detention, officers found an AR-15-style pistol in his backpack, leading to an additional charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon. Back at the daycare, police discovered more than fifteen spent rifle casings, suggesting that Williams had discharged his weapon multiple times before fleeing the scene.
