A Detroit man identified as Joseph Michael McNoriell, better known by the moniker Mike X, has been handed down a 110-month prison sentence for his involvement in cocaine and heroin distribution networks. According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan, the 43-year-old was convicted following a jury trial that concluded on April 18.
U.S. Attorney Mark Totten described the drug activities McNoriell engaged in as poisonous, stressing their capacity to wreck individual lives and ravage communities. "Mr. McNoriell helped traffic illegal street drugs across our state, which eventually made it into our neighborhoods – these poisons destroy lives and devastate communities," Totten said, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office, signaling an ongoing commitment to disrupting major drug delivery systems throughout Michigan.
The trial revealed McNoriell's role in organizing a two-kilogram cocaine shipment from southeast Michigan to Lansing. This logistics feat was attempted on June 2, 2022, with McNoriell employing a female courier he tailed during the delivery. However, unbeknownst to him, the DEA and Michigan State Police had forecast the move and intercepted the drugs.
"This investigation emphasizes the mission of the DEA: combatting criminal drug networks like the one Mr. McNoriell was involved in," DEA Special Agent in Charge Orville O. Greene articulated in the U.S. Attorney's Office press release. The joint operation and consequent prosecution underscore a clear message from law enforcement agencies – they are to persistently pursue those who elevate greed and profit over human well-being.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, Michigan State Police, Lansing Police Department, and Holland Department of Public Safety spearheaded the collaborative investigation preceding McNoriell's conviction. Assistant United States Attorneys Vito S. Solitro and LaToyia T. Carpenter led the prosecution efforts that led to McNoriell's sentencing.
