Detroit's city government is set to experience a significant change as Planning Director Antoine Bryant prepares to step down from his role for a yet-to-be-disclosed opportunity in the private sector, as announced by Mayor Mike Duggan. Bryant, whose tenure will come to a close on December 27, has to be recognized for his impactful contributions, particularly in neighborhood redevelopment and community engagement.

During Bryant's three-year stint, Detroit saw the commencement of the 'Plan Detroit' initiative, the first update to the city's Master Plan since 2009. He also began planning for the I-375 Zoning & Land Use project, which spans over 30 acres and oversaw the Neighborhood Planning Study for the Joe Louis Greenway. Bryant's approach was to thoroughly integrate the opinions of Detroit's citizens, which entailed him attending numerous meetings with residents across the city.

Mayor Duggan lauded Bryant for instilling a culture of inclusion, stating, as per the City of Detroit, "Antoine and his team have created a culture that gives Detroiters a real voice in the future of their neighborhoods." In a statement made by the Mayor, he expressed confidence that Bryant's future endeavors would continue to have a significant focus on Detroit.

Notably, Bryant's departure follows a series of major urban planning achievements. These include a host of neighborhood framework plans for areas such as North End, Greater Warren/Conner, and Brightmoor, as well as the successful passage and engagement of a Historic Preservation Study.
