Douglas County Government will participate in Operation Greenlight to support military veterans nationwide. Starting tomorrow and leading up to Veterans Day, the Douglas County Courthouse will be illuminated in green to honor those who have served. This initiative, launched by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO), aims to raise awareness of the needs and challenges faced by veterans. Last year, over 300 counties participated, according to the Douglas County Government announcement.
Chairman Jackson Jones, a veteran himself, aims to foster solidarity in the community through Operation Greenlight. He stated in the same announcement, "Operation Greenlight is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices veterans have made, and we are excited to shine a light on their contributions." The local community is encouraged to show their support by changing one light bulb to green, either inside or outside their homes.
As part of Operation Greenlight, Douglas County will illuminate its landmarks and distribute green light bulbs starting on Wednesday at a Veterans Resource Fair. The bulbs will be available to residents on a first-come, first-served basis.
The week-long observance will conclude with the annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday at 11 a.m. Information about participation and resources available through Operation Greenlight can be found on the NACo website.
