A tragic event unfolded in downtown Tampa as the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office investigated a fatal incident involving a couple. The situation, now ruled a murder-suicide, resulted in the deaths of Waleska Gomez Barroeta, 28, and her husband Franklin Vegas Delgado, 31.
According to authorities, the sheriff's office received a call regarding a missing woman on the 2800 block of Cedaridge Drive around 9 p.m. on Friday. Reports from WFLA suggest that detectives later found Barroeta dead in a parked car outside the Heron apartment complex at 815 Water Street. Evidence indicated that Delgado fled a scene on foot after abandoning his wife's body.
The search for Delgado concluded at approximately 1:20 a.m. yesterday, when he was discovered with self-inflicted injuries at the Marriott Waterside Hotel, half a mile from where his wife was found, as stated in ABC Action News. Prior to the discovery, Delgado had reportedly informed a relative of his actions.
Responding to the series of events, Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister conveyed his condolences. "Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy," Chronister said. "This is an unimaginable loss and painful reminder that violence is never the answer," FOX 13 News reported. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding these deaths remains ongoing.
