Morgan Park residents have been navigating an inconvenience since October 4, when the City of Duluth Engineering Division found it necessary to close part of Idaho Street. The closure, a safety precaution following the annual inspection of a railroad bridge owned by Canadian National Railroad, continues as the city collaborates with the bridge's owners and the Minnesota Department of Transportation to determine what repair work will be required. According to an official update from the city, additional analysis is underway to assess the bridge's current capacity and what improvements must be made for a safe reopening.
The residents, who have seen their usual routes disrupted, must now detour via the 88th Avenue W bridge. The city advises that while the bridge is marked with a height restriction of 10'6" at the gutter line, the clearance at the bridge's center is greater, as reported by the City of Duluth. Residents or delivery personnel with height-clearance concerns are encouraged to contact the City of Duluth Engineering Division for precise measurements. Meanwhile, the city acknowledges the inconvenience caused by the bridge's closure and is asking for continued patience from the community.
As the engineering teams continue their work to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge, the city reassures residents that it is actively pursuing solutions to restore connectivity to the Morgan Park neighborhood. The ongoing situation means drivers need to remain vigilant and adhere to the alternate routes provided. The City of Duluth is committed to keeping the public informed as further information becomes available regarding the reopening of Idaho Street. For questions or concerns about bridge clearance or alternate routes, residents can reach out to the City of Duluth Engineering at (218) 730-5200.
