The road closure will facilitate the construction of the Jim McGaughey Detention Basin, which kicked off this summer near Frenchman Mountain.
The $23.7 million project, which is situated close to Owens Avenue and Los Feliz Boulevard—just stone's throw from Mike O’Callaghan Middle School, targets to alleviate flooding in the area. According to Clark County, the work should wrap up come fall of 2025. Amidst this construction phase, drivers are expected to now solely rely on Hollywood Boulevard and Morning Sun Way for their north-south commutes and utilize Owens and Washington Avenue for east-west routes.
Notably, for locals who frequent Hollywood Boulevard, the silver lining is that two lanes will remain open until roughly mid-December. As noted by Clark County, construction teams plan to diligently continue their tasks from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. However, despite the best-laid plans, the inherent unpredictability of road work and traffic could lead to unforeseen changes in the schedule.
