Tragedy struck the Village of Eau Claire yesterday when a shooting resulted in the loss of one life and left another person injured. WOODTV reports that Berrien County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call at around 12:45 a.m. near Main Street and Elm Street where they discovered two men with gunshot wounds. One, found unresponsive, later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The second victim's injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The incident prompted a response from various law enforcement agencies, including Berrien Springs Police, Michigan State Police, and Benton Harbor City K9 units. WZZM 13 noted that due to the swift action of a witness, a suspect was quickly apprehended. Currently held at Berrien County Jail, the suspect faces multiple charges, and law enforcement has yet to release their identity, pending arraignment.

Details surrounding what led to the deadly incident remain scant, as investigations by local authorities continue. What is known, as per WNDU, is that after the victims were hastily transported to the hospital, one of the victims, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead. The condition of the other victim follows a more hopeful prognosis.
