A tragic multi-vehicle collision on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway claimed the life of an elderly man and left seven others injured yesterday morning near the Kosciuszko Bridge, including a 9-year-old girl now in stable condition. According to News 12 Brooklyn, the incident involved three cars and occurred just before 11 a.m. One of the vehicles, which was flipped on its side, carried both the 75-year-old man who was later pronounced dead at the hospital and the critically injured 9-year-old girl.
Further details obtained by The New York Post reveal that a 46-year-old driver of a pickup truck struck another car, causing it to overturn. In the aftermath, driving through rain, two more vehicles became entangled in the wreck. Falling on its side against a highway barrier, the video posted on Citizen shows one of the involved vehicles alongside the damaged pickup truck and a stationary green taxi.
All injured parties were transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center. While the elderly man succumbed to his injuries, the young girl, whose exact relationship to the deceased has not been disclosed, was listed in stable condition. Another victim remains in critical condition. Despite the rush to aid those injured, the deaths lying in the back of a taxi, questioning what ties, if any, bound the injured girl to the city road where destiny had placed them, weighed heavily upon first responders.
The westbound Kosciuszko Bridge faced temporary closure following the collision, which has since reopened but with expected delays. While the root cause of the crash remains under investigation, drivers interviewed expressed little surprise over the event, signaling cumulative concerns over the safety conditions on the BQE.
