Yesterday evening, a serious collision occurred in the neighborhood of Scripps Ranch that left a 72-year-old woman with a skull fracture. The incident involved an elderly driver who erroneously entered a southbound lane while driving north, resulting in a head-on collision. The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) Watch Commander, Officer J. Perales, reported that the accident occurred around 6:51 PM along the 10000 block of Aviary Drive.
According to authorities, an 83-year-old female was behind the wheel of a 2021 Mercedes Benz GLC300 when she mistakenly turned onto Aviary Drive, continuing to drive northbound in the opposing flow of traffic. The Mercedes Benz collided head-on with a 2014 Nissan Maxima, driven by a 50-year-old male with three passengers inside. A 72-year-old female passenger from the Nissan sustained a serious injury and had to be quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. The SDPD confirmed that alcohol was not to seemingly be a contributing factor in the event.
