A routine visit to a local tire shop in southwest Miami-Dade abruptly turned violent yesterday, resulting in gunshots, injuries, and an arrest. According to police, a scuffle at Tire Liquidators Miami II escalated to a shooting, leaving one customer injured and an employee facing charges. As NBC6 reported, the employee, now identified as 40-year-old Pedro Luis Rodriguez, discharged a firearm following a heated argument with two customers.
Arriving officers found the area cordoned off with crime scene tape while forensic teams scoured the location of the shooting, Tire Liquidators at 2090 SW 67th Avenue. The disagreement, as relayed by the police to Local 10 News, allegedly turned physical before Rodriguez fired his weapon, striking one customer in the leg. The injured party was quickly transported to Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition, while the employee, who received treatment for a laceration, was detained for questioning along with the second customer.
As investigators delved into the circumstances surrounding the incident, the narrative of self-defense surfaced. Rodriguez claimed he fired the gun to protect himself—a stance the tire shop owner appears to support. In an interview conducted in Spanish with Local 10 News’ Hannah Yechivi, the owner affirmed that Rodriguez acted in self-defense and was not in the wrong. He further stated that Rodriguez's position at the shop would not be affected by the altercation.
Jail records indicated that Rodriguez has been charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, his bond was set “to be set.” The Sky 10 and cell phone captured the chaos following the incident, according to the dispatch records obtained just after 3:45 p.m. that afternoon.
