The community in Everett is grappling with a horrific incident, where a teen driver, in an ill-fated attempt to evade law enforcement, crashed into a group of pedestrians, resulting in three fatalities and leaving two others with injuries, according to MyNorthwest. The crash, which occurred on Saturday near Airport Road and Center Road, initially raised concerns that the tragedy had befallen a homeless encampment, however, Everett Police clarified that this was not the case, despite a significant transient population in the area, Officer C.J. Hawley elaborated to the aforementioned source.
As the investigation unfolds, no arrests have been made yet even though three teens have been identified as occupants of the vehicle at the time of the incident, the identification of the driver remains under investigation, a situation mired in complexity given laws around juvenile interrogation, prompting the release of three detained boys to their families as reported by KOMO News.
In the wake of the tragedy, a roadside vigil continues to grow with the sorrow of a community in mourning; among the victims is Jonathan Anderson, a laborer whose brother spoke of his unwavering work ethic and inherent goodness, "He was a longshoreman. The hardest worker I ever knew. The best man you can come across,” said Keiffer Meyers, whose words were etched with the pain of sudden loss, shared in an interview with KING5.
The sting of grief is often laced with the bitterness of financial strain, as the bereaved now face the sobering logistics of laying their loved ones to rest, and it is here that Meyers directed an earnest plea toward the parents of the boys suspected of involvement in the accident, “Your kids took my big brother, and you should pay for their mistakes,” an impassioned demand for accountability reported by KOMO News. Meanwhile, the names of the other two victims await release from the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's office.
