A 34-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle as she crossed Evergreen Way in Everett yesterday night, authorities reported. The Everett Fire Department (EFD) stated that the accident occurred a little before 10 p.m. in the 11800 block of Evergreen Way, where the victim attempted to cross mid-block and not at a designated crosswalk. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, KOMO News reported.
Following the fatal incident, the Everett Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit became involved with the investigation. The victim was found in the middle of the road by paramedics, according to a statement obtained by MyNorthwest. EFD Public Information Officer Rachael Doniger indicated that detectives believe she was crossing outside of a designated crosswalk when she was hit.
The driver who struck the pedestrian stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, confirmed in an interview with Officer Doniger. No further information about the driver has been released, but their involvement in the post-accident procedures may shed light on the circumstances of the collision.
This recent fatality occurs amidst a string of traffic-related deaths in the area. Less than a block away, a separate incident claimed the lives of three individuals just last week. According to FOX13 Seattle, the location near El Taco Boom and Jack in the Box on Evergreen Way seems to be a particularly dangerous stretch for pedestrians. Authorities have not yet determined if common factors connect these incidents, or if pedestrian infrastructure could be a contributing issue.
