Motorists traveling near Nāwiliwili Harbor should brace for a series of road closures this month, as the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation initiates paving operations. The HDOT has announced that both Wilcox and Kānoa Roads will be subject to single-lane closures, with traffic contraflowed to accommodate the work. According to the official HDOT press release, these closures are scheduled for November 12, 13, 19, and 20, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Adding to the planned disruptions, East West Road will experience full closures at various points during the roadwork period. As commuters are planning their routes, these interruptions will occur on November 14, 15, 18th, and 21, also from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The paving near the pier is a necessary inconvenience as HDOT endeavors to improve the state of the harbor's adjacent infrastructure.
Residents and visitors of the area are advised to adjust their travel plans accordingly and to expect delays. HDOT recommends seeking alternative routes during these times or allowing for extra travel time when passing through the affected areas. The department has committed to minimizing disruption as much as possible and ensuring that clear signage is in place to guide motorists through the contraflowed traffic patterns.
