A spree of violent armed robberies that struck the heart of San Francisco has resulted in a conviction for Fairfield resident Gerardo Saavedra. On the night spanning September 8 and September 9, 2023, Saavedra, 25, robbed multiple victims at gunpoint before being apprehended by San Francisco Police. According to a press release from the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, Saavedra was convicted of five counts of second-degree robbery and one count of unlawful possession of a concealed firearm.

The San Francisco District Attorney, Brooke Jenkins, thanked the jury for their service and underscored the cooperation between law enforcement and the community that led to Saavedra's arrest. "This verdict is yet another reminder to those who would come to San Francisco to take advantage of our residents; you will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted," Jenkins stated. The prosecution successfully developed a strong case against Saavedra, based largely on the quick work of the San Francisco Police Department and the testimonies from the victims.

Detailing the events of that night, evidence presented at trial by Assistant District Attorney Robert Miranda indicated that Saavedra first approached two individuals on Howard Street, followed by a person on Valencia Street, and subsequently two women on Mission Street, each time demanding their possessions at the threat of a Polymer 80 Firearm Ghost Gun. The San Francisco Police Department was quickly able to locate Saavedra after tracing one of the victim's stolen cellphones, leading to the recovery of all stolen items and the weapon used in the robberies.

Saavedra, who remains in custody awaiting his sentencing on November 15, faces significant consequences for his actions.
