A devastating collision on the Florida Turnpike in Osceola County has resulted in the death of a woman and critical injuries to a 9-year-old girl. According to ClickOrlando, the accident occurred last night and involved two vehicles: a sedan and an SUV.
The Florida Highway Patrol indicated the crash occurred at approximately 5:53 p.m. near mile marker 226, just north of the Canoe Creek Service Plaza. Tragically, a 68-year-old woman, a passenger in a sedan, was pronounced dead at the hospital following the incident. The impact force caused the sedan to veer off the road, resulting in a collision with a tree. Both the 40-year-old driver and a 9-year-old passenger were also injured, with the young girl suffering critical injuries. All three victims hailed from Miami and were reportedly wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.
The SUV, driven by a 19-year-old woman from Orlando, was traveling in the inside lane when it drifted into the inside shoulder. The driver's attempt to correct the vehicle's course caused the SUV to strike the left side of the sedan. As detailed in a companion report by WESH, the SUV driver was unharmed in the crash.
The authorities, including the FHP, continue investigating the precise cause of this tragic event.
