Traffic began to flow once again on northbound Interstate 5 in Stockton after a tragic and chaotic morning. A pedestrian, whose identity has yet to be released, was struck and killed by several vehicles early Wednesday. The incident occurred before the break of dawn, just before 4 a.m., near the junction of Interstate 5 and Highway 4, an area known as the Crosstown Freeway, as reported by CBS Sacramento
The details leading up to the fatal event remain murky. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed that a pedestrian was indeed hit by multiple cars, according to an account by KCRA. The stretch of highway was closed to early morning travelers as a result but reopened its asphalt veins to the commuter's pulse shortly before 6 a.m.
In a surreal turn during the investigation, while the freeway was still closed off, a car breached the closure and collided with a California Highway Patrol patrol car on the scene. The authorities informed that no officers were injured in this secondary crash. The condition of the driver responsible for this breach, however, remains unspecified, as as per the KCRA.
