An altercation on Election Day in Fishhawk, Florida, led to the arrest of Stuart James McMillan, 71, after he was accused of attacking two women over political disagreements. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred near a local polling place at the intersection of Fishhawk Crossing Boulevard and Dorman Road. FOX 13 News reported that the conflict began midday Tuesday.
Deputies claim that an argument between McMillan and the two women about political candidates rapidly escalated. McMillan allegedly pulled one woman's flag to the ground and then attacked her, grabbing her hair and throat. When the second woman intervened in an attempt to help, she too was allegedly grabbed by the throat by McMillan. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest, detailing that McMillan was charged with two counts of battery, as per WFLA News.
Sheriff Chad Chronister emphasized the importance of civility, especially in the sphere of political discourse. "Our community is built on respect and understanding, even when opinions differ," Chronister said in a statement obtained by abc Action News. "Violence has no place in our community, and we will hold anyone accountable who disrupts the safety and civility of our neighborhoods here in Hillsborough County."
McMillan was arrested and booked into Hillsborough County Jail.
