Fort Worth's street-sweeping machines could soon be sporting names like stars on a boulevard, thanks to the city's Name the Street Sweepers contest, which rallied over 500 participants and yielded more than 1,300 imaginative entries, according to the City of Fort Worth. Environmental Services Director Cody Whittenburg expressed the community's high-spirited engagement saying, "The excitement around our Name the Street Sweepers Contest has been contagious."
With the first round complete, officials have narrowed the list to 50 contenders and are now inviting the public to cast their votes. Residents are encouraged to support the names that resonate with them, as the 12 most popular choices will be displayed on the new fleet, promoting a clean, safe urban environment and fostering a litter-free community. This interactive contest aims to strengthen the bond between city machinery and the community it serves.
The votes will be counted, and the 12 winning names will be announced during the city council meeting on Dec. 3, which will be broadcast live at 1 p.m. In addition to earning bragging rights, winners will receive a prize package filled with eco-friendly products.
