It seems like Chicago can't get enough of "The Bear," particularly its beleaguered but beloved star, Jeremy Allen White. Humboldt Park was the scene of an unusual gathering this past weekend, where over 50 lookalikes of actor Jeremy Allen White turned up, hoping to win not just a minor cash prize and a pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes but also bragging rights in the city's lookalike contest. According to a report from the Chicago Sun-Times, it wasn’t just about the physical resemblance – participants donned aprons and curls, and some even brought their cigarettes, all in a tribute to the chef character Carmy that White plays on the show.
The contest's winner was Ben Shabad, a 37-year-old mental health therapist from Glenview, who seemed to channel not only the appearance but a bit of the spirit of the rough-edged chef, earning himself the top applause and the informal crown. "This is the coolest thing I’ve done all week," Shabad told the Chicago Sun-Times, as he was hoisted into the air amidst the cheers of hundreds of spectators.
Indeed, not just White men, but individuals across genders and ethnic backgrounds joined the festivities – even a toddler participated, poignantly adding to the local charm of the competition. "He’s like a Roman god to me," exclaimed Alexis Kline, a fan of the actor, in a statement captured by the Associated Press, underlining the breadth of admiration that White has garnered through his roles.
